April's artist in residence is

Martha Horn.

Martha Horn is an artist from London. Working mostly with moving image, her recent work has explored prediction and speculation and their uneasy relationship with fiction.

Whilst at the Writers Room, Martha will be working on a script for a new film — a young entrepreneur looks for funding for his latest in a long line of failed startups. He faces a gold rush, populated by two-faced VCs and a run in with an ex for the first time since their acrimonious breakup.

Sociologist Ulrich Beck described the ‘Risk Society’ as one increasingly preoccupied by the uncertainties generated by recent technological advances - “we are suffering from the consequences of the victory of modernity”. To what extent can history offer us guidance to the apparent risks presented by artificial intelligence? Meanwhile, Silicon Valley advocates guarantee a utopic future and confidence in the predictive capabilities of the technology itself steadily rises. Through imagining the contemporary moment of frontier AI, this film aims to explore a delicate balancing act of trust, speculation and uncertainty.

Open studio with screening Saturday 31st May 2-6pm
