Emily’s work explores memory, re-enactment and archiving in order to question the ways we construct and interpret the past. Through a research-as-practice approach, she particularly focuses on the slippage between fact and fiction within archaeological and historical landscapes.

During her residency with the Writers’ Room, Emily will unpick an archive of tourist leaflets that she has assembled over a number of years. These unassuming documents have become a key part of her research, prompting her to consider the ways in which we interact with local heritage sites on a day-to-day basis.

Emily will approach the leaflet-archive as a site for artistic intervention, using methods including collage, writing and text redaction. She will also host an Open Studio and Workshop event at the Writers’ Room, which will take place in late September. Details to be announced soon!
