Joanna Jowett is an artist, writer and producer, based in Leeds. Her practice expands across art writing, poetry, performance, photography, printing and often deals with themes of motherhood, grief, identity, mental health, nature and the environment. For her time in the writers room, she is looking to continue developing new work and experimenting with how she can bring together film photography, printing and art writing practices both on and off the page. She is interested in how working with her inter-disciplinary approach presents an opportunity to explore the grey and often overlapping areas of practice between poetry/artists books/photography, print making and film.
There will be an open studio and sharing of new work in July, including a reading of new work and screening of film-poems. Whilst on residency, she will also be creating new prints, using cyanotype and found materials (seasonal and local) and writing in response to artwork and invited conversations. Research visits to artists books collections at both the British Library and The National Poetry Library will also inform these new pieces of work.
