Tryhard is a small, collaborative publication exploring the drive, uncertainty and joy of being an artist. Rather than striving to be polished in content or format, it positions itself as a gesture, a way of bringing artists who feel adrift into conversation so they might feel a little less alone. Its methodology is slow, conversational, and process-led, creating space for the more difficult parts of being an artist to be expressed creatively without needing resolution. tryhard is not primarily interested in finished pieces, but in fragments, images, texts, and in-progress thoughts that speak to these experiences.

Please join us on 11 June 2026, from 6-8pm, for the launch of tryhard Issue One. The inaugural issue considers how creativity shifts after art school. We invited reflections on process, circumstance and external pressure, including the possibility of having stopped making work altogether.

During our residency at The Writers’ Room, we open conversations for Issue Two: Resilience. We will invite a small group of artists to join informal writing sessions, a space to make, share works-in-progress, and sit with uncertainty.

tryhard is edited by artists Kat Newman and Josie Sommer.
