PASSING MELODY - SCORE WORKSHOPS
As part of Voicing Project's residency at The Writers' Room, we explore how scoring changes the way we listen, and how it alters what we create.
This July Voicing Project will run two open workshops, identical in content and composition, different only in score.
With minimal intervention from facilitator Noa Costello, the group will collectively shape a ‘final performance’.
These workshops will be open to everyone. Both scores will be non-traditional and accessible to participants with and without a music background. Singing and scoring experience not necessary.
The sessions will begin with rounds and experimental exercises, leading into score deciphering.
Workshop 1 : Participants will decipher ‘passing melody’ with a text based score, relying only on proscriptive language, phrasing and text placement to inform what they understand from the score.
[Saturday July 11th, 16:00 - 18:00]
Workshop 2 : Participants will decipher ‘passing melody’ with an entirely graphic score, using shape, colour and symbols to understand the composition,
[Thursday July 16th, 18:30 - 20:30]
Please email voicingproject@gmail.com to RSVP. Limited spots available.
Note: The Writers’ Room is located up two flights of stairs, without wheel chair access. We apologise for this lack of access.
